QST Direct

How it works

We prepare, you approve. You file, or we file for you with the add-on and your signed procuration. You always pay the tax directly.

Getting started (once)

Done once, when you sign up.

  1. Tell us about your business.

Email us at bonjour@tvqdirect.ca: how you sell, which tax accounts you have, if any (QST, GST/HST or both), and how often you file, if you know. Please don’t include account numbers.

  2. We check the fit.

We explain what our engagement covers, by email or in a call if you prefer.

  3. Engagement letter.

It sets out our services, your package and whether you chose the “We file for you” add-on.

  4. First payment.

  5. If you chose “Prepare + file”:

We pre-fill your procuration for Revenu Québec (form MR-69, or online if your business uses My Account for businesses) and your CRA authorization (online). You review and sign or confirm. For a specified-system (NR) QST account, we prepare the procuration Revenu Québec requires, and we file only once it is in place and Revenu Québec has accepted it. Until then, you file using our step-by-step package. Either way, we never use your login or ask for your passwords, and we never hold or handle your tax money: you pay Revenu Québec and the CRA directly.

Every quarter

These four steps repeat each quarter.

  1. Send your sales data each quarter.

Your sales tax report export(s), and any refunds or credit notes.

  2. Review and approve your package.

We prepare the returns and send you the figures, the reconciliation and the filing instructions. Nothing is filed until you approve it.

  3. You file, or we file for you.

You file with our step-by-step package. Or, with the “We file for you” add-on and your signed procuration, we file them for you.

  4. You pay Revenu Québec and the CRA directly.

We send you the amount due, the due date and how to pay it.

Next quarter, we start again at step 1.

How authorization works

You only need it for the “We file for you” add-on. It’s what lets us file returns for your business with Revenu Québec and the CRA. Revenu Québec calls it a procuration (power of attorney); the CRA calls it authorizing a representative.

Revenu Québec: a procuration (power of attorney), given on form MR-69, or online if your business uses My Account for businesses. For a specified-system (NR) QST account, we prepare the procuration Revenu Québec requires and tell you how to give it.

CRA: an authorization you give online in your CRA account, or confirm there after we request it through Represent a Client. Form AUT-01 (Authorize a Representative for Offline Access) only lets a representative deal with the CRA by phone, mail, fax or in person; it does not let us file returns for you.

Revenu Québec and the CRA each need their own: a procuration for Revenu Québec and an authorization for the CRA. We tell you which ones your accounts need.

We pre-fill what we can; you review and sign or confirm. You can revoke it at any time: with Revenu Québec online or on form MR-69.R, and with the CRA online or on Form AUT-01X. We never ask for your passwords.
